Reading the sources yourself

The point of a track like this one is to stop needing it. Everything taught here comes from documents a reader can obtain, and this course is the map: what to read, in what order, and how to tell the parts that argue from the parts that campaign.

Six lessons. The first is the shortest honest path, which is three works and a critic. The second is about the long book everyone starts and few finish, and what to read before it. The third sorts Hayek's output: which essays carry the economics of this track, and where they are collected.

The fourth is the hardest and the most useful. Analysis and advocacy sit inside single volumes in this literature, sometimes on facing pages, and separating them is a skill rather than a judgement about an author. The fifth names the critical pieces worth reading in the original, and says which of them this academy could obtain and which it could not.

The sixth is the one that matters longest: the specific habits that separate a reader who holds a minority position from a partisan. They are checkable habits, not attitudes, and they work the same way for any heterodox position in any field.
