Filed figures in a Google Sheet.

What you get

One function returns a figure for any filed year.

Example

The function, one filed year per cell:

B2=VS("AAPL","debt_equity",2021)

Apple Inc., Debt to Equity: the formula in each cell, and the answer it returns today.
Live values; companies chosen by a written rule, read 21 October 2026. How they were chosen
  1. Active US common stocks on NYSE, NASDAQ or AMEX, largest market value first.
  2. One company per sector.
  3. Every figure shown reads a number: no n/a, no n/m.
  4. At least 10 fiscal years filed with the SEC.
  5. A 10-K, 10-Q or 8-K filed in the last 90 days.
  6. A guardrail the free thesis draft proposes that held in one filed year and broke in the next.

Prices are market data, with their date. The other figures are computed from the companies’ filed statements, and each year of a history names its filing.

Three steps

  1. 01Make a copy of the template sheet, or paste the script below into your own.
  2. 02In Google Sheets, open Filed figures and paste your key.
  3. 03Type a function in a cell: a figure, or the reason there is none.
  1. Mint your key in Settings, under Spreadsheets and API, or on this section’s Excel page. It is the same key.
  2. Make a copy of the template sheet. Google puts the copy, with the functions inside it, in your own Drive.
  3. In your copy, open the Filed figures menu and choose Open the panel. Google asks once to let the script reach an external service and show its panel. Because the script in your copy is yours and not reviewed by Google, it first shows “Google hasn’t verified this app”: choose Advanced, then Go to the project, then Allow.
  4. Paste your key in the panel and press Save the key.
  5. Type =VS_METRIC("AAPL","revenue",2024) in a cell.
Or add the functions to a sheet you already have
  1. Mint your key in Settings, under Spreadsheets and API, or on this section’s Excel page. It is the same key.
  2. Open the Google Sheet you want the figures in, then Extensions, Apps Script.
  3. In Project Settings (the gear), tick “Show appsscript.json manifest file in editor”. Back in the editor, replace what is in appsscript.json with the manifest below. It lets the script reach this site’s API and nowhere else, and asks for three permissions only.
  4. Replace what is in Code.gs with the script below, and save.
  5. Reload the sheet. In the new Filed figures menu, choose Open the panel and paste your key. Google asks once to let the script reach an external service and show its panel.
  6. Type =VS_METRIC("AAPL","revenue",2024) in a cell.

Before you start

  • Your own key. The steps below make it, and it is shown once.

Where the figures come from

Filed figures name their filing. Prices are marked market data.

Security and privacy

  • The key is kept in your own Google user properties, never in a cell. Remove it before you share edit access.
