Financial ratios cheat sheet

Every ratio below carries two things: the arithmetic that produces it, and the level the US market actually reports for it. The first half is the same wherever you read it. The second half is the one that tells you whether the figure in front of you is an ordinary one, and it is measured here rather than asserted.

35 ratios, each measured across the companies that filed it, built 2026-10-21 (1 day ago). Every figure on this page is read from GET /api/public/distribution when the page is served. None of them is written into it.

Every metric with a published cross-market cohort: how it is computed, and the lower quarter, the middle and the upper quarter of what US filers reported for it on 2026-10-21. Each row names the number of companies behind it.

p25 is the mark a quarter of the companies sit at or below, the median is the middle one, and p75 is the mark a quarter sit at or above. A ratio printed with an x is a multiple and one printed with a percent sign is a rate, so the two are never read as the same number.

How a cohort is counted: One deduplicated company per cohort row, drawn only from companies with filed statements on record. One row per company. Key: case-folded, whitespace-collapsed stocks.name. Representative listing: most archived fiscal years, then largest stored market cap, then ticker ascending.

Every mark above was computed after the same clamp. Clamped to the observed values at p1 and p99 before the breakpoints were computed. Values are clamped, never dropped, so the cohort size is the cohort that produced the breakpoints.

It is not written out from memory here.

What this sheet does not tell you

It is one cross-section of one market on one date. It says where companies stood on 2026-10-21, not where they stood a year ago and not where any one of them stands now. The market is the United States: companies listed on the NYSE, NASDAQ and AMEX, one row per company.

Altman Z-Score, Dividend yield, EV to EBIT multiple, EV to EBITDA, Free cash flow yield, Owner earnings yield, Price to book, Price to earnings, Price/earnings to growth ratio, Price to tangible book ratio, Price to Graham number, Price to net current asset value, Price to sales ratio: each of these reads a share price on one side of the arithmetic, so those marks move when the market does and this build has not seen the market since it ran. The rest are filed figures and move only when somebody files.

And it is not a ranking. No ratio here is more important than another, the order is the product's own registry order rather than a judgement, and a level that is ordinary for one industry is not for the next. Each metric's own page carries the same marks for every sector large enough to support them, which is the comparison that usually matters more than this one.

Familiar ratios that are not on this sheet: Price to free cash flow, Quick ratio, Return on capital employed, EBITDA margin, Net debt to EBITDA, Inventory turnover. The product computes each of them for covered companies, and none of them has a published cross-market cohort, so there is no measured level to print beside the formula and the row is left out rather than half filled.

Cross-sectional statistics computed from filed accounts held on the build date shown. A breakpoint describes where a figure sat among comparable companies, not whether any company is worth owning. This is research, not advice.

The same arithmetic on what you own

A median is a fact about the market and not about your company. Paste the tickers you hold and the same filed figures are read for each one, with no account and no card.
